Remove file preview




















This simple visual style can be beneficial if you need to quickly separate images from video files. This tutorial will cover 4 different methods to turn off and on thumbnail previews in Windows Explorer.

Note that some of these apply to only the current user, while others persist across the entire system. You should naturally be careful about making system-wide changes if you share a PC. This is by far the easiest method but only affects your current user account.

Press the Windows key and type File Explorer. In File Explorer, click on the View tab. In the Panes group, you will see the Preview pane icon. In the screenshot below, the Preview Pane in enabled, as seen by the blue background it has and the field on the right: To disable the Preview Pane, simply click it once. All the questions available for disabling the preview pane in the File Explorer are in regards to Windows 8 or Windows 7. I tried to follow them but there is no such thing Preview Pane tab.

The directions for fixing it are clearly outdated when I can't find a way to get rid of the preview pane which is taking up more space than needed. I'm trying to get rid of the stupid Preview Pane after I clicked something I didn't want to, while trying to make my File Explorer look the way it did before Windows 10 screwed up the simplicity of what was perfectly fine before.

Rather, when you right-click on the Preview icon in the Dock, they want it to be empty. I could open 20 documents right now, close them all, right-click on the TextEdit icon and see none of those 20 documents show up. I've tried all of the aforementioned suggestions to clear it out so I can start all over again, and none of them work.
