Ghost has always, even prior to Symantec's acquisition of Binary Research, been licensed on the basis that Ghosting to a PC requires a specific license of some form and that license was then in effect "attached" to the machine perpetually. The main practical difficulty of this for customers arises in respect of old versions where additional licenses are eventually withdrawn from purchase which is to be expected when the product is out of support, as it is with one as old as Ghost Enterprise 8.
Symantec doesn't generally offer explicit "downgrade" rights to allow licenses purchased for newer versions to be used with older and especially out-of-support product versions, so you have some choices to make in terms of how to manage using licenses purchased for current versions of the product for a complete discussion on this you are best off talking to a sales representative with whom you can discuss the details of your needs in confidence.
However, the main thing is having and being able to demonstrate that you have purchased licenses to cover all the machines which you have in your organization deployed using Ghost.
The legal substance of the license agreement does not depend on HOW you deploy with Ghost whether manually or through the console. What Lohizune is referring to is not the legal, contractual license itself, but merely a process the Ghost console uses to give an approximate guide to your current license usage.
That mechanism is NOT the same thing as the legal contract and it is NOT correct to infer that if the console permits an operation then it is necessarily valid under the terms of the EULA which has to include all use of Ghost, including manual use with boot disks. The most substantial part of the EULA wording change was to make explicit what was previously left implicit in earlier EULAs; how to effect a transfer of license from a machine to another.
