The Mississippi Board does not grant IV certification by endorsement. LPNs should complete a board approved course. LPNs who do not have recent nursing experience may have additional requirements to show that their skills are up to date. There are several steps to the licensing process; the candidate may begin as early as three months before graduation. The candidate can fill out the Mississippi application online, but will need to print it to sign and get notarization.
If the candidate has been fingerprinted by the Board of Nursing within the prior two years for example, if the candidate applied first as an LPN , the candidate will not need to go through the criminal background check anew.
None, however, are offered online. Mississippi also allows student nurses, graduate nurses, and out-of-state or international nurses to test as CNAs. The examination has two components.
The skills portion requires the candidate to carry out five nurse aide skills. The multiple choice portion of the examination can be taken in either written or oral format; a test taker who wants the oral examination must note this on the examination application. Some candidates test at their own facilities; others travel to regional testing centers. Currently, there are regional testing sites in seven Mississippi cities. The document also includes upcoming test dates.
Candidates will enter the test code of their preferred site on the application. They will indicate whether they want to travel to another site if it means being able to take the exam sooner and, if so, how far they are willing to travel.
An approved candidate can expect to receive an Authorization to Test ATT in the mail within ten business days of application. A candidate who needs to reschedule is to call by noon at least five business days in advance of the scheduled examination.
